Cabo Verde - land of revolutionary Amilcar Cabral who inspired millions of us to join the liberation struggle. I was invited last week by former President Pedro Pires, himself, a revolutionary commander, who fought alongside Cabral.
It was returning to history, the struggle for freedom, the victories and setbacks, visiting the death concentration, camp set up by the coloniser, the slave markets and role of the church in the slave trade.
But it also was an exuberance of the Cabo Verdians, hardworking and conscientious, who continue to give meaning to the freedom they have won.
Aah the beautiful land of Cesaria Evoria, the bare footed diva, of Africa, still has her magical voice ringing in my ears.
