Ode to Ubuntu tree.
Aah beautiful weaved trellis
Of our journey of life.
Grounded in the sacred waters that flow under the Mother City.
Camissa
Sweet waters for all.
Aah our ancient common ancestor
The river that flows from thee!
Today Camissa holds all
In her soul
The Spirit of the San and Khoe
The strands of Africa
The indentured. The enslaved.
The oppressor and oppressed.
I pray to you Nokaphila
Spirit of Tree. Earth. Mountain. River. Ocean.
Fauna and Flora.
The great teacher of life.
Incomplete. Transitory.
Caught in an evolutionary arc.
Your arms reach to true home
That lies beyond the stars.
Your roots bless the many rivers and streams beneath Mother Earth.
You are the sentinel of our consciousness.
As I hold you
I feel you.
Your multi - centennial journey
Carries the memories of genocide.
Of times before and after.
We sit under your shade
And absorb your wisdom as we build the road to a new future.
I am humbled by your knowledge.
I am strengthened by your fortitude.
I pledge to protect the rights of all
To see the golden thread that unites us all
Into the Oneness of all that exists
In our ever expanding cosmos.
