World Refugee Day
The unhealed consequences that is
The blight of our humanity
Is the daily prayer of millions.
Forced to flee homes, community and country
Persecuted by barbarism of elites
The Lords of War
Sheltering in air conditioned offices
In capitals of warmongering nations.
The mass graves of the Mediterranean
Belies the falsehood of civilization.
Millions eke out their meagre livelihoods
In parched lands
Drowning under the tsunami.
While privileged powerful
Wallow in the comforts of casino economics.
108 million people worldwide
Forcibily displaced today.
Human rights violated.
Societal cohesion shredded
In the pursuit of power and money.
This is inflection point.
Destruction and disconnection has
Severed our relationships
Between nations, cultures and people.
Betwixt us and Nature.
It’s time to re-calibrate
Become conscious stewards
Underpinned by compassion
And solidarity.
Seeking peace within.
And finding that thread of humanity
An invincible love that leaves
No one behind.
And then the need for a World Refugee Day
Disappears from our calendar.
But remains engraved in memory
Lest we forget.
🙏❤️💙💚
